Spyware and how to remove them

Posted under Uncategorized by Admin on Monday 31 August 2009 at 3:40 pm

So, I guess you heard about spyware or are surprised as to why your computer is “not normal” anymore. There are many other things Spywares can do, for example – add tons of bookmars to your browser, you get advertisements all over your place and dont close when you click the X button, you get unwanted pop ups, your computer is insanely slow, you press Ctrl-Del-Enter and go to processes tab and there are tons of processes you have no idea about.

Congratulations, you have got your spyware. Although most of them are easy to remove but they can sometimes cause serious problems. This is true especially for the ones which make your browser go all crazy, opening new tabs with pornographic websites and tons of pop up advertisements.

Spywares are programs which are designed to steal your private information (your credit card number, your paypal password, etc. )

There are some spywares used solely for the advertisment purposes (the ones which fill your computer with many popup, popunder advertisements)

How to remove spywares? I guess you have already tried removing them with your antivirus, but it doesnt find anything.

Spywares are not essentially viruses, so,  anti-viruses rarely pick on them.

The best program which I used to remove spyware was Spybot – Search and Destroy (Click Me). This brilliant program not only removes all your spywares pretty easily, but also immunizes your browsers and keeps a registry backup just in case.

This is the best tool to remove almost all Spywares. Let us know if you use Spybot or have better alternatives to remove spywares by posting in the comments!

Twitter Tips

Posted under Uncategorized by Admin on Friday 28 August 2009 at 3:40 pm

Okay, so you finally got convinced that you should have a twitter account. You follow your friends and they follow you, great (not to mention some bots follow you too. A quick way to tell if an account is a bot is if it sends out the same message more than once, and has a super hot girl as its avatar).

But, what do you tweet about? Please for the love of God, nobody, okay, almost nobody is interested in “Just came back from the bathroom”, “Just saw Friends”, “Just ate food”.

Think of twitter as an information sharing website, sure it has other uses, but one of the main use is quick transmission of information. Just tweet something you know will help other users, something which might be useful for them.

One of the best ways to do this is to share links of posts which you liked. For example, if you read something about time management or a useful firefox extention, link to it!

Use services like tinyurl.com to shorten out the url. There is also a great firefox extention to automate this (TinyURL creator avaliable at https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/126).

You might want to be a little humorous, as it helps a lot. Also, always be good to people (being mean might really turn bad for you). Try and reply others, re-tweet the information which you found useful and make contacts. Twitter is good for various reasons and can help you do a lot of things. So, choose a reason and stick with it. Have fun tweeting!

Foxit Reader – A better alternative to Adobe Acrobat Reader

Posted under Technology by Admin on Tuesday 25 August 2009 at 3:39 pm

Alright. For the billionth time, my Adobe reader just crashed and its not because it is a bad program. But, it is too resource intensive. I do not have one of the coolest computers. I open 4-5 e-books together (I do that a lot!) and it takes my CPU usage up by 50%.

So, I looked around and found Foxit Reader. I was surprised because its not really that new. But, I guess I rarely ever look for better alternatives once I get something that solves my purpose.

Anyways, this is a nice little PDF reader. It starts up in under 5 seconds, which is extremely good in comparison with Adobe Acrobat Reader’s startup time. It also really easy to install compared to the Acrobat’s installer. Here, you just need to download the little exe file and you are all set to go.

It also has good addons, which are mostly free, some advance ones require a small fee. You can download foxit reader from here http://www.foxitsoftware.com/downloads/

The best part of Foxit Reader is that it is not resource intensive at all. I opened more than 10 pdf files and still my computer didn’t become sluggish.

You get used to the interface and most of the shortcuts in a really short time. So, if you are a normal pdf user, and want a lighter and faster software to view your pdf files, then Foxit Reader is a really good choice.

But if you got any better alternatives, or got something to say about Foxit Reader, just leave it in the comments ;)

New way to get wallpapers

Posted under Technology by Admin on Saturday 22 August 2009 at 3:37 pm

Are you bored of your existing wallpaper or still have the fake green windows xp field?  Time to move on!

If you have tried searching for wallpapers in wallpaper sites before, you might have noticed that they are usually full of ads, and some even try to install adwares or spywares on your computer. Not to mention you rarely ever find what you were looking for. And if you do, it is not the resolution you wanted, so the wallpaper has to be cropped or worse yet it ends up with stretched pixels. You end up losing an hour of your time and your browser is filled with useless pop under ads.

Fear no more, Google Image search to the rescue!

I am sure you are ready with, “But, it doesnt always give wallpapers!”. Now, it will! A new feature added to Advanced Google Image Search (http://images.google.com/advanced_image_search?hl=en) will now enable you to search for photos of a specific size. Now you can search only for wallpapers, or for your avatars if you want to spice up your new profile or IM window.

There is an extremely handy “use my desktop size” link, which will automatically fill the image height and width according to current display resolution.

This is a screenshot illustrating how to use this handly little addition

Google Advance Wallpaper Search

Google Advance Wallpaper Search

All this is simple enough. 5 minutes later, I have a awesome Pink Floyd cover art wallpaper on my desktop. Let me know how you used this feature in the comments!

P.S. We can also search for only black and white images. ^_^

UK’s Petrol rises and US goes on Strike.

Posted under Business by Admin on Wednesday 19 August 2009 at 3:38 pm

Unlike the UK the US has figured out that the only reason petrol is so high is because the suppliers evaluate petrol as a price inelastic good, unlucky for them. The price per barrel of oil has dropped down to $115 after a continual decline in the demand for oil.

Maybe this shows a change in the trend and the suppliers will finally see that holding back their supply of oil in order to push up prices will no longer work in this now eco-friendly world.
With the lowering prices in oil (most likely due to the recession) the US economy may have a chance to recover much faster then anticipated but no business is holding its breath and neither are the citizens.

UK’s employment breaks a few records

Posted under Business by Admin on Sunday 16 August 2009 at 12:38 pm

The ONS said the employment total hit 29.5 million in the quarter, the highest since records first began in 1971. The number claiming jobseeker’s allowance in March fell by 1,200 to 794,300, the lowest total since 1975.

Don’t start shouting that it means the UK isn’t falling into recession because analysis’s are suggesting that the job market is weakening and with the economy falling on hard times this might be a short lived victory, though a victory non the less.

The ONS said the number of people claiming jobseeker’s allowance in February rose by 600, instead of a previously reported fall of 2,800. This was the first rise in this total since September 2006. Businesses are already moving to cheaper countries in terms of labour, corporation tax and less restrictions this is leading to job loses as well as the fact the retail market is failing and more ‘costs’ in the form of workers are being cit in order to save money.
