How Bluetooth Technology Works

Posted under Technology by xual on Saturday 12 September 2009 at 6:06 pm

They say we are in the Social Media where communication and networking is the key to success. You reach out to more people, you share your extraordinary thoughts and ideas with others and you are “present”. And these are made easier with communication technologies that are being developed every day.
One of such significant innovations was the Bluetooth technology. Now, what is Bluetooth? It refers to the short range open wireless communications technology used for exchanging data with high level of security through the creation of “personal area networks” (PAN). It allows a number of fixed as well as mobile devices to get connected and share their information and communicate with each other.
The Bluetooth works using the piconets or PAN.  A device can track and communicate up to 7 other Bluetooth enabled devices. The piconets are established when the Bluetooth service is enabled in the device and brought to the proximity of another Bluetooth enabled device. These piconets are established automatically and dynamically once the device enters the proximity of the radio range.
Another most important feature of the Bluetooth technology is that it supports both voice and data transmissions. It has resulted in it being used in the voice calling, faxing, printing and many other purposes. It has been a very important complementary feature to the telecommunications and internet technology, and has lots of uses in our daily life, whether it is for fun, business, studies or else.

Google Calendar – Adding Birthdays

Posted under Technology by Admin on Thursday 3 September 2009 at 3:41 pm

So, you just moved to Google Calendar to organize yourself better and are having a hard time to start off. Here are some quick tips to get your birthdays fixed in your Google Calendar, really fast.

Adding your facebook friends’ birthdays

There is a nice little application called FB Cal (Click Me) to automate this. It requires access to your facebook account both online and offline, but it gets the job done. You will get a new calendar in Google Calendar after the application has done its magic. Even your new friends get added into your Google Calendar perfectly, so you just have to set it up once and forget about it.  Neat and small!

Adding your Orkut friends’ birthdays

Okay, this one is really easy, since Google owns Orkut. Just click on the “view your friends’ birthdays in Google Calendar’ link below the birthday reminder widget and you will have all the friends’ birthdays in your Google Calendar in a breeze.

Importing from other sources

Google supports synchronizing your Google calendar with Microsoft Outlook, Apple iCal and Mozilla Sunbird. Just go the Sync tab on the top right and look up the method for each of the above applications respectively.

Once you have your birthdays sorted out, you need a reminder set up. Easy again. Just go the settings of your Birthday calendar and click on Notifications. Then you can add reminders for each of the events.

So, no more belated birthdays. You have successfully saved yourself for embarrasement. Have fun and don’t forget to leave comments!

Foxit Reader – A better alternative to Adobe Acrobat Reader

Posted under Technology by Admin on Tuesday 25 August 2009 at 3:39 pm

Alright. For the billionth time, my Adobe reader just crashed and its not because it is a bad program. But, it is too resource intensive. I do not have one of the coolest computers. I open 4-5 e-books together (I do that a lot!) and it takes my CPU usage up by 50%.

So, I looked around and found Foxit Reader. I was surprised because its not really that new. But, I guess I rarely ever look for better alternatives once I get something that solves my purpose.

Anyways, this is a nice little PDF reader. It starts up in under 5 seconds, which is extremely good in comparison with Adobe Acrobat Reader’s startup time. It also really easy to install compared to the Acrobat’s installer. Here, you just need to download the little exe file and you are all set to go.

It also has good addons, which are mostly free, some advance ones require a small fee. You can download foxit reader from here http://www.foxitsoftware.com/downloads/

The best part of Foxit Reader is that it is not resource intensive at all. I opened more than 10 pdf files and still my computer didn’t become sluggish.

You get used to the interface and most of the shortcuts in a really short time. So, if you are a normal pdf user, and want a lighter and faster software to view your pdf files, then Foxit Reader is a really good choice.

But if you got any better alternatives, or got something to say about Foxit Reader, just leave it in the comments ;)

New way to get wallpapers

Posted under Technology by Admin on Saturday 22 August 2009 at 3:37 pm

Are you bored of your existing wallpaper or still have the fake green windows xp field?  Time to move on!

If you have tried searching for wallpapers in wallpaper sites before, you might have noticed that they are usually full of ads, and some even try to install adwares or spywares on your computer. Not to mention you rarely ever find what you were looking for. And if you do, it is not the resolution you wanted, so the wallpaper has to be cropped or worse yet it ends up with stretched pixels. You end up losing an hour of your time and your browser is filled with useless pop under ads.

Fear no more, Google Image search to the rescue!

I am sure you are ready with, “But, it doesnt always give wallpapers!”. Now, it will! A new feature added to Advanced Google Image Search (http://images.google.com/advanced_image_search?hl=en) will now enable you to search for photos of a specific size. Now you can search only for wallpapers, or for your avatars if you want to spice up your new profile or IM window.

There is an extremely handy “use my desktop size” link, which will automatically fill the image height and width according to current display resolution.

This is a screenshot illustrating how to use this handly little addition

Google Advance Wallpaper Search

Google Advance Wallpaper Search

All this is simple enough. 5 minutes later, I have a awesome Pink Floyd cover art wallpaper on my desktop. Let me know how you used this feature in the comments!

P.S. We can also search for only black and white images. ^_^
